Mind Control!

Img_0056

Hi there!

Just saw this book cover in a store in Nashville. It really got me thinking....

So much of how we live really is controlled by the way we think. Some people take that in a God-less way and talk about thinking powerful thoughts and ruling your world, e.g. repeating mantras like "I am awesome, I am beautiful, I am in control!" every morning as you climb out of bed! This is not what I'm advising!

But it is Biblically true that what goes on in our minds does have a huge impact on the way we live and who we become. Joyce Myers "Battlefield of The Mind" explores this kind of theme. Paul puts it most concisely when he says in Romans 12:

"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will"

Now thats real transformation! But its true - its does all start with our minds, our thoughts...So how can we live this out - how can we have our thoughts renewed and train our minds to think God's way?

The more He changes our thinking, the more He can change the world in and through us!

Love,
Vicky

too true!

We can have our minds transformed, by always seeking God. If we are always thinking about him, or should I say trying to keep him in our thoughts as much as posible, we will begin to hear him more clearly and feel his leading us. Of course I feel that when we listen and are obedient we will be closer and it is easier. But as we allow our own thinking to control us we tend to not hear him as clearly. But it is so much worth following his will. Lastly as we read the scriptures and meditate and memorize it, we will renew our thinking and mind, because verses will come to mind that convict us when we are going astray. The word says that God will gives us a way of escape with every temptation. So we need to heed the holy spirits conviction. Well again thanks for your questions. They are thought provoking. Hope you home studio is going well. Take care and God Bless,,Bubby

vicky, that is so weird. about half and hr ago, i was just praying and stuff all round that verse!
i dont want to conform. and i wont. why should the world tell me who i can and cant be? it is full of lies that lead to empty hope. everything the world offers, god gives in a new and better way. and its a hope that goes beyond the grave. we have a hope for when we die too! its amazing!

one thing i really felt god say was, "Here my heart on the matter." its a basic truth that the more time we spend with god, the more we'll be able to hear his voice and know his heart. we need to know gods heart on the matter.
im so sick of the world offering hope, satisfaction, freedom and love to people through drinking, drugs, sex, being thin and beautiful, fame, money etc. the little bit of joy that they offer is momentary. its fleeting. gods joy lasts forever and its real and true! if people chase after the world for acceptance all they're going to be left with is addiction, pain, depression, eating disorders and a whole lot of hurt.
with changes and renewed minds we can go out and be a witness in just the way we act and Jesus will shine out and it will be so attractive to the searching.
prayer is sooooooooooo important. and its so powerful! colossians 4 says devote yourself to prayer. prayer changes the world.
basically, push in to God. another thing hes been saying to me is, "Lucy, do you want to feel the heat of the flame or the flame? be close enough to touch the fire."
we need to keep pushing in, keep going deeper, being more honest and intimate with him. through this, god will change our hearts and minds.

sending a british hug to you vb :)

love lucy xx

That's totally true, that we can't change the world but by letting God speak through us, He can! I love knowing that God can use me to bring something to world.

Hey Vicky! I love your blog, too. Found it through Carlos' blog. I'll add you to my sidebar. :) I actually want you to come to our worship conference in September. I'm talking to Elyse at GOA right now. Hopefully it will work out.

As far as transforming our minds I think people neglect how much of it is chemical and biological. Everybody is predispositioned to act certain ways in different situations. And changing those "ways" is more difficult than just saying "I want to be different".
Scientist have recently confirmed that the brain is plastic meaning that it continually makes new neural connections. Which may seem obvious but this goes against what science has thought in the past. Point being we can literally change the way we think. Of course prayer is apart of this but there is also a science behind it. If you are really interested in this also check out the book Emotional Intelligence. It talks alot about stuff like this. This is not a shameless plug as it sounds but I'll post on this soon over at my blog.
